Garden Reverie

The Blessing of the Rain

Today was cool, in the mid-sixties, and we have had a steady but gentle rain all day long.  The perfect kind of rain; rain that soaks in and breathes life into all the plants.  I just came from the Garden Room where I sat for a few minutes and watched the rain falling in the garden.  Everything is looking lush and happy.  The birds were happy, too, as they flitted from feeders to trees or flowers.  It brought to mind this lovely Irish blessing and I wanted to share it with you.Oakleaf Hydrangea in the Rain

“May the blessing of the rain be on you—

the soft sweet rain.

May it fall upon your spirit

so that all the little flowers may spring up,

and shed their sweetness on the air.

May the blessing of the great rains be on you,

may they beat upon your spirit

and wash it fair and clean,

and leave there many a shining pool

where the blue of heaven shines,

and sometimes a star.”
