Garden Reverie

Hyacinths

I adore hyacinths forced inside in the winter.  Could there possibly be a more heavenly fragrance?

This is what is in the kitchen window right now – a pretty little bit of spring to cheer us.

“If, of thy mortal goods, thou art bereft,
And from thy slender store two loaves
alone to thee are left,
Sell one & from the dole,
Buy Hyacinths to feed the soul”
– Muslihuddin Sadi,
13th Century Persian Poet

With thanks to my friend Donna who led me to this poem.
